Ballet Cymru Presents Romeo a Juliet
Critics’ Circle Award winning company, Ballet Cymru, present an extraordinary adaptation of William Shakespeare’s masterpiece Romeo a Juliet at the Torch Theatre this June. Winner of Best Large Scale Dance Production at the Wales Theatre Awards, this production is one not to be missed.
Intense fighting, passionate duets and universal themes echo through dramatic, energetic and lyrical choreography. Exquisite costumes and extraordinary video projections create a world of danger and excitement where two star crossed young lovers are caught in an age-old feud.
Romeo a Juliet features choreography from company Directors Darius James OBE and Amy Doughty, and costumes by Georg Meyer-Wiel who has created costumes for some of the world’s leading companies including Rambert Dance Company and Australian Dance Theatre.
“With a bed and a platform that serves both as Juliet’s balcony and the tomb, the nimble ensemble go full-throttle in the fight scenes, despite the confines of the space, to deliver a sense of disorder that’s both casual and contagious,” explains Anna Winter, for The Guardian who gave the ballet three stars.
Romeo a Juliet is a dynamic and unique collaboration between three of Wales’ outstanding arts organisations, Ballet Cymru, Coreo Cymru (The Dance Creative Producer for Wales) and the Riverfront Theatre in Newport.
Romeo and Juliet will be performed on the Torch Theatre stage on Tuesday 4 June at 7.30pm. Ticket prices: £19/ Concessions £18. Under 8s - £11. For tickets phone the Box Office on 01646 695267 or click here.
