Ravers Review by Riley

In a shocking twist of fate, the Speekies, the Anti-social ones, the “Nerds” have decided that it was time to have some fun of their own. The people who’d usually be hyped up for coding club or a six hour marathon of Lord of The Rings (which I definitely haven’t done) have decided to host a rave. A rave that will change the way Nerds and Geeks socialise and the way they view the past generations youth which sprung into our society.

So to be honest, I didn’t expect much from this. I heard “nerds host a Rave” and thought it would be an alright story about some kids who throw a rave that goes terribly, they get in trouble and we learn “the oh so important lesson” that raves are bad if you don’t listen to your parents. So why, on god good earth did I get an insightful and thought provoking experience that had me rethinking my life?!? How on earth did a group of kids manage to pull off such an amazing and talented showing of a deep look into the life of a variety of “nerds”. In no way did I think I’d be taught something about psychology by a theatre show on a Thursday night. I also don’t understand how they managed to make all this fit in with perfect and fitting comedy that had me feeling personally targeted in the funniest way possible. It practically called out everyone physically possible and said “Your a NERD” and by the looks of it made the crowd laugh and think hard about all this a lot. It showed how being a Nerd, Geek or neither was a good thing and explained how people should have a place where they can be themselves and have a laugh in the form of the Rave. Plus the people acting in it were especially excellent at adding some spice to the atmosphere. With the added bonus of some hilarious Drunk characters and the Nerd being portrayed exactly how they should be. Not all being a stereotypical character but more so like the different kinds of nerds in all different characters. With some not even being full on classically Nerdy! It also showed some of the best character interactions I’ve ever seen, all of this being exemplified by the cast and crew. I think their acting was on point at every turn and the music made it feel like a real Rave today, talking about how kids view their parents and the stories they tell. (Also known as “Dad Lore”) the stories felt real but also silly enough to make the viewers laugh.

To be fully honest I think this was one of if not my favourite theatre performance at the Torch and I fully want to see this crew perform more like this in future.
