Blog No. 24 - Ben Hall

Meet Ben Arie Hall - on work experience with the Marketing Team at the  Torch Theatre.

I first started working at the Torch Theatre in October 2023. Initially, I joined as a casual member of staff, covering roles at the bar, kiosk, and café. It was an exciting introduction to the vibrant atmosphere of the theatre, though I soon had to return to my separate job as a chef, a career I'm passionate about, as I love being able to mix art with delicious food!

After earning my diploma in creative media production, I realised I wanted to carry on with the work I loved into an environment I'm familiar with, which drew me back to the Torch Theatre. I reached out to our marketing consultant, Annie Taylor, about potential opportunities to work alongside the marketing team. Since then, I have contributed to the team on a range of different projects.

In my role, I've had the chance to create a variety of concepts for social media, brainstorming and developing ideas to help increase our audience and bring more people through our doors. I also attended the 2024 County Agricultural Show with the Torch, meeting a range of different people, getting them to talk about us and to come and visit us some time.

Theatre has always been a significant part of my life. I used to attend Torch Youth Theatre, which played a huge role in building the confidence I have today. It’s a place where I found my voice and developed a deep appreciation for performing arts. I strongly recommend it to anyone under 18 who lives in the area - it's an incredible way to build confidence, make friends, and discover a passion for theatre.

Beyond my work at the Torch Theatre, I'm also actively involved with a local theatre group, the St. Katherine's Stratford Players. We aim to put on at least three shows a year, and it’s a lovely community I’m happy to be a part of. I’m looking forward to being involved with their upcoming October show of Matilda the Musical.

Most recently, I helped with the production of Wind in the Willows here at the Torch Theatre, a project directed by our youth and community senior manager, Tim Howe and casted with members from our Youth Theatre. I enjoyed being able to contribute to this production and having our very own special visit from the real Mr Toad who spent a few nights with our lovely Box Office attendants.
