Get Involved – Get Creative At The Torch As Its Autumn Season Begins!
From the popular Youth Theatre to the Adult Creative Writing Workshops – the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven has a great choice of activities this Autumn Season. Following on from its hugely successful run of The Wind and the Willows over the summer, the Youth Theatre is more popular than ever, and places are filling fast.
Torch’s vibrant youth Theatre is for young people aged seven to 18 and meets each week during term time, and they’re looking for members old and new to join them for an exciting Autumn term! This term runs from 17 September until 3 December with various groups for differing ages.
Group 1: School years 3 & 4 meet on TUESDAYS 4:00pm to 5:30pm
Group 2: School years 5 & 6 meet on WEDNESDAYS 4:30pm to 6:00pm
Group 3: School years 7, 8, & 9 meet on TUESDAYS 6.30pm to 8:00pm
Group 4: School years 10, 11, 12 & 13 meet on WEDNESDAYS 7:30pm to 9:30pm
All groups take part in an informal showcase performance for family and friends in the Torch Theatre Studio on Saturday 7th December.
The Youth Theatre is overseen by director and playwright Tim Howe who is the Torch’s Senior Manager for Youth & Community. He said:
“We play games, create stories, and share work on the Torch stages, all overseen by our fantastic, friendly and dedicated team. The weekly sessions are not just about acting and theatre; we ensure that all the young people who attend learn social skills, problem-solving, and teamwork. Most importantly they have fun and make new friends.
For many of the young people who attend it is their first time getting involved with theatre and seeing their confidence grow through activities in which their voices and opinions are valued is the best bit of the job.”
The termly fee is £90.00, and split payments are available across the term.
Tim also takes charge of the Adult Creative Writing Workshops which are open to everyone 18 and over and run from Thursday 26 September to Thursday 5 December.
“Adults with a creative flare will enjoy the Creative Writing sessions for the stage!” continued Tim, “The informal fun-filled, fortnightly sessions focus on exploring and developing creative writing skills, as well as providing a great social opportunity to chat with like-minded people.”
The sessions are led by the Torch Theatre’s expert team. Staff members at the Torch will help get writers’ ideas on the page, giving characters voices, and supporting future writers in sharing work with others.
“To get the most out of your experience, we aim to create a nurturing and creative space so we can turn anyone into a writer for the stage,” concluded Tim.
Each session costs £10.00 or £50 for the term.
The Creative Writing sessions take place on a Thursday from 6.30pm – 8.30pm at the Torch Theatre, starting on Thursday 26th September. Further dates: 3 and 17 October, 7 and 21 November and 5 December. The Torch Youth Theatre Autumn Term runs from 17 September until 3 December.
