A heartbreaking and important story of a man who has been forgotten
The Torch Theatre, Milford Haven looks forward to welcoming the English performance of the one-man show Carwyn on Tuesday 31 October. Carwyn James was one of Wales’ giants, as a bright and innovative rugby coach and a man who loved his land, language and country.
The play, one of four Torch Theatre Productions performed in Pembrokeshire this year explores the life of a man who was more than a character in rugby; a teacher, broadcaster, coach, and even espionage and is presented by Bale and Thomas, in association with Torch Theatre, Theatr Felinfach and RCT Theatres. It will tour throughout Wales during October and will visit Pembrokeshire at the end of this month.
The show by playwright Owen Thomas will tell the important story of Carwyn James 40 years since his death with actor Simon Nehan bringing Carwyn to life on stage. The designer for the show is Tegan Reg James and Ceri James is the lighting designer (a familiar face at the Torch Theatre having this month worked on Private Lives at the Torch).
Gareth John Bale, director of Carwyn said: "We are looking forward to taking the show to theatres across Wales. We visit 15 theatres and perform 18 shows. It's not quite as long as those famous Lions rugby tours but it is a challenge and we are looking forward to reminding people of the genius of Carwyn James.”
Carwyn was a man who adored sport, culture and politics, a man who adored Wales. He made a particular impression on his country and the Welsh language during his life.
