Company of Sirens presents the Welsh Tour of Eco-Thriller “Water Wars” by Ian Rowlands

A Gripping New Bi-lingual Production Explores the Global Water Crisis, coming to venues across Wales in the Spring.

“Who owns the rain?”
The answer sends Wales to war.

Water Wars is a powerful and visceral eco-thriller which delves into a dystopian near future, where global water shortages spark political conflict and personal betrayals. As communities are torn apart by dwindling resources, the play questions humanity's priorities, the price of survival, and the impact of environmental degradation on the fabric of society. With its hard-hitting, uncompromising blend of suspense, political intrigue, and deeply personal stories, the production is set to engage audiences and spark important conversations about sustainability, ownership, and the future of our existence.

Directed by Chris Durnall, Artistic Director of Company of Sirens, Water Wars brings together a cast of highly experienced Welsh actors, expertly weaving together Welsh and English dialogue to reflect the bilingual reality of modern Wales. This eco-thriller is both global and local, underscoring Wales' rich cultural heritage while addressing an issue of worldwide importance. Water Wars is more than a play—it's a call to action. As environmental concerns continue to dominate global headlines, this production aims to challenge, inspire, and energise audiences.

Ian Rowlands is an internationally known playwright from Carmarthen. His plays include Marriage of Convenience, Troyanne, Love in Plastic, Blue Heron in the Womb, The Sin Eaters, Glissando on an Empty Harp, and Aurora Borealis.

Starring Arwel Gruffydd, Siwan Morris, Jâms Thomas, and Luke Mulloy.

“Rowlands writes metaphors to kill for, has an intriguing line in plot development and roots his writing deep in Welsh soil.” The Stage
