ATTEMPTS ON HER LIFE
By Martin Crimp
Directed by William Kingshott
Anne is never truly defined; people simply gather snippets of information which spirals further afield. Anne is framed as both a terrorist and a victim. Anne is constantly watched and investigated. Anne is not just a person, Anne is a product, a brand, a lifestyle.
Attempts on Her Life by Martin Crimp is by turns hilarious and shocking, a rollercoaster of twentieth century obsessions from pornography to ethnic violence and terrorism to unprotected sex.
The play consists of 17 unrelated scenes, each offering a different version of “Anne”, a central figure who is never seen or heard. Throughout the play, “Anne” is described as various things, yet the truth about her remains elusive. The voices in the play shift perspectives, contradict each other and reflect how identity can be shaped, manipulated and moulded to fit the needs of others.
Will Kingshott directs the graduating students in Martin Crimp’s experimental and provoking piece. Excavating complex themes whilst celebrating the light in the dark, Attempts on Her Life is an unforgettable theatrical experience.
This amateur production of “Attempts on Her Life” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
This is presented as part of an exciting double-bill alongside The Roaring Girl. Click here to book tickets.
