SENIOR MANAGER - FINANCE

 

The Torch Theatre is looking for a qualified accountant [or at least qualified to degree level of education within a relevant discipline], with extensive financial management experience. Theatre experience is desirable but not essential.

 

The successful candidate will be a part of and work closely with the Senior Management Team (SMT) and be responsible for leading and managing a small Finance team.

 

This is a Senior Management role with specific financial management responsibility for the development, implementation and on-going oversight of financial policies, practices, processes and systems; production of the annual budget and monthly management accounts and the production of quarterly finance reports; management of the external audit and production of year end statutory accounts; relationship management with banks, HMRC and other finance related organisations; providing comprehensive support to colleagues, budget-holders on budgeting and reporting; supporting the Executive Director in financial analysis, planning, management and reporting to the Board of Management (the Board).

BOARD MEMBERS

 

The Torch Theatre is looking to appoint a number of suitably qualified Elected Board Members.

The successful applicants will be a part of the Torch Theatre Board of Management (the Board) and will join up to 12 Elected Board Members and up to four Nominated Board Members who are County/Town Councillors. There are currently eight Elected Board Members.

The Torch Theatre is a non-profit-distributing limited company with charitable status.

Torch Theatre Board Members fulfil two roles: first, as a Director of the company limited by guarantee and secondly, as a Trustee of the registered charity. Each role has a slightly different purpose and is governed by a different statute. For consistency, the Torch Theatre Board of Management is known as ‘the Board’ and a Director/Trustee as a ‘Board Member’.


The duties and legal responsibilities of a Board Member include:

•             At all times, to act in the best interests of the Torch;

•             Not to benefit from the office of Torch Board Member - other than to the extent permitted by the Articles of Association; and

•             Not to put themselves in a position where their interests conflict with those of the Torch


During this current recruitment campaign, the Board has agreed that the following order of preference of preferred skill sets should be applied to all Board Member applications:

•             Financial & business expertise;

•             Marketing expertise;

•             Sponsorship & fundraising expertise; and

•             Estates management expertise


The Board would like to appoint a minimum three to four Board Members possessing the requisite skill sets.

Torch Theatre vacancies for casual Café/Bar staff

   

The Torch Theatre are looking for individuals full of energy to join our Front of House team as casual Café/Bar Assistants. If you have a passion for customer service and have experience of Café and/or Bar work, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

  

As a casual Café/Bar Assistant you will be responsible for:

  

  • Welcoming and serving customers visiting Café Torch and/or the Torch Bar in a quick and efficient manner always remaining calm in what can be a busy environment;
  • All aspects of kitchen duties including basic food preparation;
  • Dealing with the pre-ordering and preparing of interval drinks;
  • Delivering consistent high quality customer service in what, at times, can be a very fast paced role;
  • Clearing, wiping and tidying tables in Café Torch and Front of House areas;
  • Following all food hygiene and cleanliness procedures rigorously in all aspects of the job;
  • Working in co-operation with other theatre staff to provide a seamless service across all of the catering operation; and complying with Torch Theatre policies and procedures

 

We are looking for individuals with:

  

  • A ‘can do’ approach towards work;
  • Previous experience working in a Café and/or Bar;
  • A knowledge of food with a keen interest in developing cooking skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, confidence and self-motivation;
  • An honest and responsible personality;
  • Ability to solve problems at any given time;
  • A willingness to be trained and confident in using the coffee machine and tills;
  • Excellent attention to detail and punctuality; and
  • Excellent team skills

 

Our Café and Bar opening hours are determined by our theatre and cinema programmes and will regularly vary. We therefore operate a shift/rota system with hours agreed in advance with the Front of House Manager and/or Catering Manager. Our Bar is licensed 11:00am to 1:00am so some early and/or late shifts may be required. Availability is therefore an essential requirement of this role. Applicable National Minimum Wage rates will apply.
