If you're searching for a giant-sized helping of festive fun this holiday season, look no further than The Torch Theatre's Christmas Pantomime, “Jack and the Beanstalk.” brilliantly Written and directed by artistic director Chelsey Gillard, this delightful production offers audiences an uproarious adventure on an epic scale that’ll have everyone from ages 7-107 laughing their socks off. This vibrant production is an un-bean-lievable spectacle as we journey high above the clouds into the Giant's castle, Carew Car-t Boot Sale to Castle Pill, and finally our hero’s home, ultimately taking the experience to new whimsical heights that are packed full of beans galore—literally! From chilli beans, jumping beans, kidney beans, coffee beans... and the spirits of the Magic Beans. As the colourful staging comes to life, we’re whisked away on a whimsical adventure bursting with joy and laughter, a plate full of vegetables and more beans than you can count!
At the heart of this enchanting, adventurous tale is our hero, Jack, brought to life with charm and energy by Gareth Elis. Elis truly makes his Torch debut as the brave hero, His quest to scale the towering beanstalk, save the day, and rescue the Moo-Vellous Pat the Cow (the delightful Carri Munn) is an adventure filled with clever twists and hilarity. Munn's performance as Pat is an absolute showstopper in comedic timing, capturing audiences' hearts as she navigates her fate and cleverly escapes from a giant cheese grater! The Trotts reside on Trott's Tater Farm in Hakin, and when you meet the ever-lovable Dame Titania Trott, you'll instantly be bestowed upon her. Enter Lloyd Grayshon, who, from the moment she makes a fabulous entrance as Mrs. Trott, immediately captures the audience's attention. With a striking blend of glamour and humour, she dazzled in various stunning costumes, including my personal favourite—the iconic branded Beans ensemble, complete with the signature colours of the synonymous tin and a whimsical rack of toast atop her head. Not to be outdone, she also channels the adventurous spirit of Indiana Jones, complete with a classic fedora. With a mission to enchant every unsuspecting suitor in the audience, Titania Trott is sure to be remembered as one of the finest and greatest Dames in Torch history.
Fairy Gabby Greenfingers, portrayed by Elena Carys-Thomas, captivates the audience with her charm and Welsh magic. Dressed in a costume of vegetable leaves and a carrot necklace, her enchanting performance inspires everyone to root for her as she strives to restore balance to the land. Meet the mischievous siblings, Terrence and Agatha Fleshcreep—Taz and Agz! Portrayed by Samuel Freeman and Freya Dare, they create laughter with their silly antics. Their bumbling attempts to trade Jack's cow for "magic beans" add a whimsical twist to saving the family farm. With chaotic slapstick moments, including a pie-making frenzy, Taz and Agz guarantee a night of fun and laughter!
