Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru with support from the Torch Theatre presents a touching play about friendship, and the hopes and fears of young people.
The latest in the Torch Theatre's online theatre offerings will be live-streamed performances of Pryd Mae’r Haf?, a touching play about friendship and the hopes and fears of young people, produced by A Criw Brwd and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru in association with The Other Room and Theatr Soa.
Set in the south Wales valleys in 1989, the play follows the story of Luke and Christie, two teenage boys who are best friends. As they leave school, their lives take different paths – Luke joins the army, but Christie stays at home and continues his relationship with his girlfriend, Julie. But the boys find that their friendship suffers as a result of the different paths they have chosen to follow.
Pryd Mae’r Haf is a Welsh translation by Gwawr Loader (S4C's Tir) of the play Christmas Is Miles Away by Chloë Moss (The Smoke, Hollyoaks, Dickensian). It is set in the late 1980s, and provides a platform for those feelings of frustration, anxiety and hope that are as relevant to young people today as they were then.
Sion Pritchard will be directing the production. Sion is very well known as an actor on stage and television, but this will be the first time for him to direct a production for Criw Brwd and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru.
The performances will be streamed live online at various times and dates between Thursday 13 May - Friday 2021. The live-steams will include English language-captioned and BSL interpreted performances making the production accessible to all.
