New to opera? Swansea City Opera’s production of Così Fan Tutte is the perfect introduction!

Beautifully staged in English, Così fan tutte contains some of Mozart’s most ravishing music and makes for an enchanting and hilarious evening’s entertainment - a feast for the eyes and ears.

New to opera? Sung in English, Swansea City Opera’s production of the uproarious comic opera Così Fan Tutte is the perfect introduction! Great tunes, funny characters, fast moving plot and a free pre-show talk, here on Wednesday 27 February in the main auditorium.

Set in the period of the early British Raj, Swansea City Opera's elegant production of Così Fan Tutte has toured 20 venues throughout the UK and was conducted by Fraser Goulding and designed by Gabriella Ingram.

Così Fan Tutte contains some of Mozart’s most ravishing music. Supposedly based on a true story, this comic tale of deception, doubt, devotion and the twists and turns of romantic love, tells how a cynical old man, Don Alfonso, leads two naïve officers into a scandalous wager to prove it is against a woman’s nature to be faithful – ‘Così fan tutte’ – ‘all women are alike’. As the story unfolds we see just how well he succeeds; at first the women are resistant, but then attraction triumphs over virtue…

Cast includes Jessica Robinson as Despina– the maid who cynically manipulates the main characters - and Mari Wyn Williams as heroine Fiordiligi. Håkan Vramsmo will be playing the cynical bachelor Don Alfonso.

In a pre-show talk scheduled for 6:15pm, Brendan Wheatley, Swansea City Opera’s Artistic Director, talks about the Mozart’s life and music and the challenges of creating a new production for the stage and audiences can discover more about the importance of design in staging an opera...
