Emma Thompson gives us a very personal, emotionally generous and intimate performance in this terrific British comedy-drama.

Thompson plays Nancy, a 55-year-old widow and retired teacher, who is looking for pleasure and self-discovery after a profoundly unfulfilling married life. She hires the good looking, young sex worker Leo Grande (Daryl McCormack, Peaky Blinders) to finally explore her long-held curiosity.

Thompson and McCormack have some wonderful on-screen chemistry and the script is witty and funny. As well as intimacy, the film deals with empowerment, family, expectations and age, and is an amusing, compassionate and humane drama acted and directed with terrific panache.
