This is a young man’s play that still seems sprightly, invigorating and even moving in its preoccupation with the inevitability of death. – The Guardian
David Leveaux’s new production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead marks the 50th anniversary of the play that made a young Tom Stoppard’s name overnight. NT LIVE broadcasts this brilliantly funny situation comedy production live from The Old Vic theatre in London to the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven on Thursday, 20 April at 7pm.
With actors Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, The Woman in Black), Joshua McGuire (The Hour) and David Haig (Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Witness for the Prosecution), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, will be broadcast to the Torch for one night only.
Stoppard turns Hamlet upside down in this play by focusing on minor characters from Shakespeare’s influential play. Whilst Prince Hamlet is avenging his father’s death we focus on the two courtiers of the title who must find their own way through the action despite not having the skills to cope. Described as simultaneous comedy, tragedy and existential crisis, the show has earned many admirers over the years and also features brief appearances of characters from Shakespeare’s text, making it an intriguing an memorable piece of work.
With that in mind it is a show that always gets plenty of attention whenever it is staged around the world and this time around it has extra pulling-power in the form of Daniel Radcliffe, whose work as Harry Potter will forever make him a familiar face to an international audience.
