Photography Exhibition – Roy Campbell-Moore

During 2016 and 2017, photographer Roy Campbell-Moore worked with choreographer and dancer, Zosia Jo to document her work as it progressed from a solo performance titled (Un)Covered to a large group production, (Un)Covered En Masse for a group of women dancers in Cairo.

Zosia Jo’s ideas include exploring cultural norms associated with womens’ self perception and empowerment, showing how they communicate this through varying dress codes.

The exhibition includes a set of fifteen small, black-framed images which enclose intimate portraits of the Egyptian women who are displaying their emotional response to performing the choreography. There is also a second set of twelve, large-scale prints showing the work as theatrical spectacle.

Roy Campbell-Moore is the founding Artistic Director of Diversions, The Dance Company of Wales which became National Dance Company Wales in 2009. He was a dancer in Scottish Ballet from 1975 until 1981 and then an internationally successful dancer and choreographer until 2000 when he began to photograph dance. He is passionate to join photography and dance into a potent mix of both artforms, showing a dancer’s perspective of being inside the performance, freezing the moments of heightened feeling as the work is performed.

The gallery is open from 10.00am – 8.00pm, Monday – Saturday

It is free to view the work in the gallery.
