Cinema audiences in Milford Haven will be able to experience the best in live theatre with the National Theatre’s production of Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes by Tony Kushner – a unique two-night event, broadcast live from the National Theatre in two parts, each one week apart:
Part One: Millennium Approaches, broadcast live on 20 July 2017
Part Two: Perestroika, broadcast live on 27 July 2017
An an incredible and epic drama set in America in the mid-1980s against the backdrop of the AIDS crisis, as New Yorkers grapple with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell, Angels in America also offers a critique of American conservative politics which resonates particularly now. It has gained numerous five-star reviews, critics hailing it as ‘a start-to-finish sensation’.
Oscar-Nominee Andrew Garfield, recently having appeared in Silence and Hacksaw Ridge – and of course famous for Spiderman – leads an incredible star cast including Denise Gough (People, Places and Things), Broadway superstar Nathan Lane (The Producers), James McArdle (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and well-known British film and TV face Russell Tovey (The Pass).
This new staging of Tony Kushner’s multi-award winning two-part play is directed by Marianne Elliott, director of Olivier and Tony award winning shows The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and War Horse.
The show is sold out at the National Theatre. There is huge demand for tickets and the only way that most people will be able to see it is via the NT Live. The two parts are two halves of the same story, so audiences need to see both parts to fully experience the show and see the whole story.
